Once upon a time, a certain federal agency was vehemently opposed to finding ANY benefit from cannabis. Today, this agency wants more research.
Director of the National Institute of Drug Abuse, Nora Volkow, recently wrote an opinion article on the Huffington Post demonstrating her support for continued research with cannabis, focusing on the highly therapeutic compound known as CBD, or cannabidiol.
“There is reason to believe (CBD) may have a range of uses in medicine, including in the treatment of seizures and other neurological disorders,” Volkow says. “In the impassioned, often emotional debates these days over medical marijuana, CBD is often cited as one of the main reasons restrictions on marijuana should be loosened.”
Since this wonder compound has been in the lexicon of the majority of folks for only a few years (we were one of the first to bring CBD products to the internet), there aren’t many studies that have been performed to date, including research into the claims of helping debilitating disorders such as epilepsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis, amongst many others. Recent reports have found an increased rate of recovery of bone fractures.
